Tierra y Libertad

Comrades,

I can not wait until Thursday evening for the opportunity to discuss, one of the finest moments of the CPUSA, the Abraham Lincoln brigade with fellow Marxists. Personally, I find the narrative (insert appropriately sufficient qualifier for "narrative" to satisfy whatever self-conscious theoretical paradigm you subscribe to) of the Spanish Civil War (sweeping and specific) to be among the most epic and romantic of texts. After all,  "agrupemonos todos en la lucha final."

  1. For a great documentary on The Abraham Lincoln Brigade take a look at "The Good Fight." You can watch it for free on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URtWFEKHsvs

  3. Personally, I thought the movie kinda sucked. And wasn't the point of the movie how you Stalinists mucked up the Spanish Revolution in the first place? Just askin'

  4. I assume you are talking about "Land and Freedom" and not "The Good Fight" simply because I don't know how anyone can walk away from "The Good Fight" without realizing the profound contributions of the Soviet Union to the Spanish Civil War.

That being said, I don't think "Land and Freedom" (assuming movies as the products of art have 'points') is centered around the role played by the Soviets in the Spanish Civil War. I feel that the film is more interested in the profoundly human story of the sacrifice one person offered in the anti-fascist effort.

If anyone mucked up Spain it was Franco.
